Adams Hockey

The history of the city's hockey
In the city of hockey, only one team to root – Detroit Red Wings. Equipment is now a luxury sedan or a limousine to leave Joe Louis Arena, located in downtown Detroit. Here are some team historical highlights:
1920 – The Red Wings go all the way back the old Western Hockey League, where the Victoria (British Columbia) Cougars were sold a group of Detroit on September 25, 1926. The team played their home games at Windsor, Ontario. The Victoria Cougars won the Stanley Cup 1925 and were Cup finalists in 1926, but the Detroit Cougars finished 12-28-4; worst team in the NHL this season 1926-27.
Help came in 1928, as Jack Adams, the team's coach and general manager. Adam's occupation as a coach and GM would last until season 1962-63, when Sid Abel took over. With Adams at the helm, the team made the playoffs for the first time in its history.
The team also visited the new stadium Olympia for the 1927-28 season. In Detroit and the site of professional hockey, will serve the Olympia home of the franchise by Ecuador of the 1979-80 season. Ready to test any anything, Jack Adams changed the name for the 1930-31 season for the Detroit Falcons.
In 1932, the financial problems ended when the millionaire shipping magnate James Norris bought the team grain. Norris, like Adams, was a Canadian in America. He had played hockey for the Montreal Protocol Wheelers Amateur Athletic Association winged.
When the two men met, Norris and Adams agreed that the new team logo is a wheel with wings and the club's nickname has changed the Red Wings.
The franchise had some players who contribute to the team's first two Stanley Cups in 1936 and 1937 as Ebbie Goodfellow, Larry Aurie, Herbie Lewis, HEC Kilrea and John Sorrell. Detroit fell to less than 500 and missed the playoffs in 1934-35, but returned to win the first Stanley Cup history franchise in 1936, beating the Toronto Maple Leafs three games to one in the final.
The Red Wings repeat as Cup champions in 1937, winning three games to two on the New York Rangers in the final. The 1936 and 1937 was with two teams of top players for use on the winged wheel in Ebbie Goodfellow and Syd Howe.
Detroit blue line also got an addition in 1938-39 when Jack Stewart was introduced in the NHL. His dark features and physical game earned him the nickname "Black Jack" Stewart and he terrorized opposing forward with crushing hits and his great strength.
The Red Wings Stanley Cup qualifying in 1941 and 1942, losing to the Boston Bruins and the Maple Leafs. However, the Red Wings got their revenge against the Bruins Brimsek and winning the third Stanley Cup in its history in a four-game sweep of Boston in 1943.
With the promotions of Ted Lindsay (1944-45), Gordie Howe (1946-47) Red Kelly (1947-48) and Terry Sawchuk (1949-50) of the NHL and the return of both Abel and Stewart from the RCAF, one of the greatest dynasties in NHL history has started. Detroit finished second in the 1947-48 regular season, five points behind the Maple Leafs. But the team ran a seven straight finishes in the first round 1948-49 in 1954-55 and won four Stanley Cups (1950, 1952, 1954 and 1955).
1950 Stanley Cup was also the first appearance of an octopus on the ice in Detroit a Hockey Game. The eight tentacles represented the eight games a team needed a win to capture the Stanley Cup.
Detroit has not returned to the Cup final Stanley until 1961, when they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks. He rejoiced at the Olympia in 1963 when Gordie Howe was Maurice "Rocket" Richard record for most goals in the NHL with his 545th against the Montreal Canadiens.
The wings have come to the series of four 1966-67 to 1985-86, a period highlighted by the line Veteran Howe, Alex Delvecchio and Frank Mahovlich in 1968-69 and 1969-70 seasons.
The team suggests Joe Louis Arena in December 1979. The stadium hosted the NHL All-Star Game in January 1980. The party took 50 years, Gordie Howe, who was in his final season with the Hartford Whalers after returning to professional hockey in 1973-74 in the Association Hockey World.
The Norris sold the Red Wings in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, owner of Little Caesars Pizza. One of his first hires as a manager Jimmy Devellano general and chose a team of 18 call center Steve Yzerman as the fourth overall selection in the 1983 NHL draft.
Detroit series in both seasons 1983-84 and 1984-85, but lost in first round each season. The Red Wings have collected only 40 points in 1985-86 to last row in the NHL, but the campaign of deception could be one step backward before Detroit has several steps in the right direction.
Detroit hired its new coach, Jacques Demers, made the 21-year-old Yzerman the team captain. Demers won the Jack Adams Trophy as NHL Coach of the Year in both 1986-87 and 1987-88. In 1988-89, Yzerman set team records for goals, assists and points with 65 goals, 90 assists and 155 points – which is the most points in history for an NHL player not named Gretzky or Lemieux.
Young players like Sergei Fedorov, Nicklas Lidstrom, Vladimir Konstantinov Slava Kozlov, Keith Primeau, Martin Lapointe, Darren McCarty and Chris Osgood and veterans like Dino Ciccarelli, Paul Coffey and Ray Sheppard were acquired via trade. All but Primeau Ciccarelli,, Coffey and Sheppard contributed to the Red Wings Stanley 'Cup victories in 1997 and 1998.
The 1999-2000 season has been one of the milestones for the Red Wings. Yzerman scored goal No. 600, No. 500 recorded Verbeek, Shanahan collected No. 400 and No. 300 Fedorov obtained. Yzerman 1500 also recorded his 900th point meetings and help Verbeek, who scored his point as 1000 ยบ.
The Red Wings finished with the record second best league in 2000-01, but were eliminated by Los Angeles in the first round of the playoffs in 2001. After finishing second in Norris Trophy voting for three consecutive years Lidstrom finally won his first Norris as the best defender in the NHL.
In 2001, with the best in the league, 116 points, the team won the award of the 10th Stanley Cup after the Red Wings defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in five games during the Stanley Cup final in 2002.
