Atlanta Braves
Why are the Atlanta Braves in the NL West?

I was researching the NL West and I met with the Atlanta Braves used be in this division before moving to the Eastern League. I obviously can not understand everything .. Atlanta is located on the east coast lol. and werent in a different, yet were in Atlanta. Neon does not know why?

The fact that the Milwaukee Braves was nothing to do with the fact that Atlanta has played in the NL West. Play Division began in 1969, which was the 4th season of the Atlanta Braves have played. If teams have strictly applied the geographical divisions have been well – East – Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Montreal, New York (Mets) Cincinnati, Atlanta West – Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Houston, St. Louis, Chicago (Cubs) If you look ranking in the National League in 1968, will see that the first 3 teams were the Cardinals, Giants and Cubs – which would mean that you put your top 3 teams the same division. BY basically reverse the Cardinals and Cubs in the east, and the Reds and Braves in the West, competition has been more dispersed equilibrium. Only a quick calculation can say that the divisions were about the same later. Add places in each division. (1 for first, 2 for 2, etc) You will see that if there are geographical, the total would be the West 23 (1, 2, 3, 7, 10) while the east would be 32 (4,5,6,8,9). With divisions are adjusted total much closer – 28 West 27 East. (Note that there is 12 or 11 – the Expos and Padres have been added for the 1969 season) Looking to 1968 classification, and put the teams in the strictly geographical divisions, the Cardinals had the (best mark BN) playing the red (4th best album), while the Giants and Cubs (2nd and 3rd) would have been sent home. The only conclusion I can reach, which was more competitive balance, then nothing else. Perhaps the only so that others may have been to separate the letters and the Chicago Cubs in place (one west, one in the east), but I'm sure baseball would keep intact the rivalry. only theory – have never really understood the reasons for not doing so.
