Tusk is to boycott the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympics
Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of Poland has decided to boycott the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games in a protest against Chinese actions in Tibet. It is a fact that few people through the world known and perhaps less appropriate to care about the end of the day neither us nor Tusk should delude believe that the absence Tusk the opening ceremony of the Olympics will make a difference As to anyone. Not to mention the people of Tibet in the name of Donald Tusk is supposed to do. If we can be realistic, the Chinese government has granted human rights has a terrible not only in regards to Tibetans but all its citizens will not change just because someone is not presented in a ceremony, even large.
Going back to 1980, when the Olympics were to take place in Moscow, was Jimmy Carter, then president of the United States has not had the choice monumental to send our U.S. Olympic team to participate in the Moscow Games to protest the Soviet intervention Afghanistan. Carter shares naturally reached the goal
damage to the American athletes who trained hard for this moment of glory in their lives, but beyond that what else has done the amount efforts? Well, think for a minute. The Olympic Games has not been shown U.S. TV is not that surprised me, since I have spent this summer in Madrid, where I saw how the same outside the United Kingdom, our closest ally in the war does not follow the example of boycotting the Games in Moscow in the naive hope that this would make the Soviets withdraw its troops from Afghanistan. Of course, if, even in the United Kingdom was not with us at this point it is useless to say that none of them some of our allies less influenced U.S., France, Spain, Italy or the United Kingdom, as has been steadily making its presence felt Moscow Games.
reader to get Carter the nations of the world to join us in our boycott obviously failed miserably as did his bid to be elected president, when in November the same year, suffer a crushing defeat on the hands of former actor, Ronald Wilson Reagan. Carter, however, other "bright ideas" on how to help the people of Afghanistan and one of them a grain embargo on the Soviet Union. This tactic differs from the first effect was more. One of them is hurting our farmers, while not helping the Afghan people in the least. Perhaps it was ideas like the one that won him the Nobel Prize?
It is in this spirit that I ask Tusk not only, but those who may be thinking the same actions the next question. If a boycott of the Moscow Games by the U.S. Olympic Team, which is a of the largest perhaps most fans to follow U.S. networks also choose not to broadcast the event (which means losing a lot income for the organizers of Games) has failed to make a difference in Moscow's decision to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan Why then the absence of Donald Tusk of the Opening Ceremony even realize that no one outside of Poland, let alone change anything with regard to relations between Beijing and Tibet?
The answer is simple: it will not change anything except maybe make Tusk feel better about yourself, making a valiant effort useless something doomed from the start. The Olympics for good or evil will take place in China, weather we like it or not, is a fact and not void, even if all the Polish Olympic team with other nations were to boycott them, as was the case of 1984 Los Angeles Games, will not change Beijing's attitude toward Tibet or anything else for that matter. Right China has an economy that is literally growing by leaps and bounds to the point that has already happened in Italy and soon will do the same with France if it did not already done so, in the size of its GDP and that the Olympic Games to boost their economies, not much compared to the size of its economy is now. It is in this spirit we must conclude that even if the Olympics should not be held in Beijing this year would not make much difference to the Chinese economy and less yet his political machine.
I am a Republican as was my tendency to agree with a Democrat, but I must say Bill Clinton was not entirely wrong when he estimated that the average change in China is not through isolation or boycotts or embargoes, but dialogue and negotiation. However These two should never be confused with appeasement has clearly failed in Munich in 1938 and during the Yalta conference in 1945. For my part I can claim, except that presidents Clinton and other U.S. have concluded this line of thought to Cuba as they did and are doing to China to know what changes have there now? And China is changing, even in terms of politics, but perhaps not as fast as some would like is for sure, but gone are the days of the Cultural Revolution and brutality.
As for Donald Tusk, if its purpose is really to help the people of Tibet and not just make jokes that are due to failures his attempt to become president of Poland in 2005, then is that what I plan to attend the opening of the Olympics and said he did it for the people of Tibet. It would be a gesture like this would bring more international attention to the plight of the Tibetan people and no-show that does not convince the Soviets in 1980, not separate to do the same with the Chinese in 2008.
