Conservation of leather boots?

Well, I just bought this pair of Football Boots which consists of leather, so how I can store to avoid being bitten by rats or roaches or turn moldy (cousin then play at night, could be wet and may lead to the proliferation of fungi?) Because leather boots has a strong smell? Thanks! =)

I just put mine in the closet with an old sock in each shoe that contains two charcoal briquettes. The charcoal absorbs excess moisture and odors as to prevent mold and bacteria from training.
